Energy being an essential commodity will always its way to its users! This is the law of economics and also law of thermodynamics! Energy moves from regions of higher concentration (producers) to regions of lower concentration (aka consumers) creating wealth and health regardless of petty human interventions! Yes, this will bring enormous economic and social suffering to millions of people in Europe who finally enjoyed peace and development for last seven decades. Rick Steves will not be conducting tours on PBS for sometime!

Nice piece! Only area in which we disagree slightly - we don’t think NGOs don’t care about CO2, we think they only see CO2 and nothing else.

Thanks, Energy Matters. I agree. No doubt some NGOs actually care about CO2 but many of them care because CO2-related lawsuits are a large source of their annual revenue. I appreciate you reading my Substack and commenting. Ed

Wonderful observations and break down of the situation as it unfolded.

I do believe that the US has used up all of its "trust chips" this time. When did a commitment not mean you stick by that commitment.

Our loss and Russia's gain even if they have to ship it in the back door to Europe.

What are we going to do instead - start making millions of "sheets of glass" and send them to Europe and China?

As a lifelong Louisiana resident, I appreciate this article. Do we know if the companies or the local governments are doing anything to push back on this? If they had invested billions and have buyers ready to go I doubt they'll just sit there and take it. What's the next step?

Some of this may be rhetorical if you don't have an answer yet, haha. Thanks for the well-done piece!

Seems like this could have massive consequences in the world of geopolitics in the upcoming months. I am really curious why he would drive up the price of energy so high considering the current problems the united states is having with inflation.

Quinn, there are no logical explanations for our President's actions to drive up the prices of energy in the face of inflation that will most likely cost him the election. The only explanation is raw politics and vote buying.

There is plenty of gas and oil in the Paris basin.

However, they are too French to frack and banned it six years ago.

Over in Germany, it's just the opposite, natural gas is good and nuclear power is evil.

You are correct about the Paris Basin being rich in hydrocarbons and the French made a conscious decision to not develop it. Same story for Germany and England as well. It is fair to say that these countries get what they apparently wish for. At least the U.S. benefits by selling them LNG, at least until our President does everything he can to stop it. Thanks for the comment, ojizarco.

You omitted that slow joe biden is retaliating against Texas for opposing his non

enforcement on the US Southern border. Also many LNG tanker engines has been

modified to burn the boil-off gas as fuel instead of just venting it to the atmosphere.

Slow joe would rather punish Texas for their defiance than keep his word to Europe.

Thanks for making those points, ojizarco. You are absolutely correct! The Bidens are punishing Texas in every way possible. I appreciate your comments! Ed

While this dictate by biden is incredibly stupid it fits with all of the other dictates and policies this administration has made.

Who thinks solar is cheaper than natural gas powered electricity generation plants? Certainly not those paying electricity bills where solar has been injected into the grid, as their monthly bills have increased!

Thanks for the comment, Jeff. This latest attack on natural gas is another in the long list of things they have tried to stop natural gas because they hate it. The hate it because it stands in the way of their plans to electrify everything which gives them the ability to control energy use. Costs are irrelevant. Thanks for reading and commenting, Jeff.
