Good summary of what’s going on with unreliable generators. Fortunately, Texas avoided blackouts. But this as been a long running issue and will enough people pay attention? One can only hope so, and keep spreading the word.

Thanks, Penguin. Some heads rolled at ERCOT this week, indicating they are focused on the problem. Ed

That could be a first step, but until Texas priorities reliable power stations over intermittent ones, it’ll be rise and repeat.

The challenge ERCOT faces its it is the traffic cop trying to coordinate the grid traffic. While it’s the face of the problem, it can only work with what it has. When Texas set up its grid to incentivize renewable, ERCOT can only do so much.

Texas may need deep grid reform that awards reliability over intermittent sources. But that would probably take an act of the Texas Legislature. Some like discussed in the book Shorting The Grid by Angwin.

You're absolutely right, Penguin. The Texas grid was designed to be close to a free market so subsidized wind and solar are not compatible with it. Yes, Merideth's book is great.

It’s been over seven years now that I awoke from hibernation to discover that our world was going to burn up and drown because of Global Warming. Like most, I was so preoccupied with every day life that I hadn’t paid close attention to the creeping indoctrination of this new dogma into our society. All I thought then was that our government and that of other countries were spending enormous amounts of money, primarily on computer modeling, to determine the cause and extent of the problem.

Being a lifelong Agriculturalists with two Life Science degrees, my curiosity was aroused when I began learning that anthropogenic produced carbon dioxide was the primary cause of “global warming” now commonly called “climate change”. How could this be when CO2, from all sources, represents only .04% of the atmosphere? Without it there would be no life, as we know it, on Earth.

It’s been a long and arduous quest, since I woke up, to discover what I now understand is the truth of the matter. Among my many astonishing discoveries was that CO2 is the cudgel being used, by certain groups worldwide, to eliminate the use of fossil fuels. Why?

Apparently, I am not the only one aroused by this ridicules endeavor to eliminate the most versatile and valuable energy source known to mankind. More and more reputable and knowledgeable Scientists, Economist and concerned citizens are providing factual insights into this critical issue. I have read a number of their books, articles and published studies, including the recently published book “The Unpopular Truth”.

I highly recommend this book to anyone seriously interested in an in-depth analysis and understanding of the energy and economics impacting the electricity grid and transportation. I had the good fortune to have taken two climate science courses under Professor Smith at WashU, one of the coauthors.
