This article is insightful. Thanks for explaining how this all works and how our storage is being compromised. I do wonder why this country is being left so vulnerable on so many fronts from energy security to food security, to our land use and business conflicts with foreign corporations.

Cheaper gas prices for a few days or months will help no one and our energy prices will be skyrocketing if problems with ERCOT are not lined out soon.

It's bad when I have to decide on a new car or a Generac for my spring shopping.

At won't complain too much at least I have that option, so many in this state don't and about 30% of the population can't pay their electric bills.

Thanks, JF. The mechanics of the SPR are not well understood for sure. I'm with you that the US being left vulnerable on many fronts is very concerning. This Administration has had plenty of time to refill the SPR but they obviously don't want to and make up lame excuses about how they want to save taxpayers money by waiting until oil prices go back down. Then they do everything they can to make oil prices go up. The US is quickly heading toward a country with people who can afford it will have backup generators and everyone else will be left to suffer through constant blackouts, all caused by EPA and other federal policies. I always appreciate your comments, JF. Ed

You won’t regret getting a standby generator. I got one 3 years ago and never even sweat when a storm passes through. It completely removes the stress of worrying about food spoiling or your home getting too humid. Your car can go another year!

And all this without even mentioning the decreasing confidence in our grid…

I live about 30 minutes from the Bayou Choctaw reserve. It is surprisingly understated and you wouldn’t guess it is capable of holding that much crude.

It’s a shame this administration continues to play politics at our expense. The oil and gas industry is rolling despite the admin, not because of it. Hope a lot of heads roll in the fall.

Thanks, B Apple. Yes the surface equipment on SPR sites is understated given how much crude oil they hold and how important they are to national security. I agree with you--heads need to roll in the fall! Ed
